Apple releases two new PowerMacs

PMac

The Power Mac G5 offers 2.0GHz, 2.3GHz and 2.7GHz dual-processor models with a speed boost at the top of the line. The dual 2.7GHz model packs so much power into tight quarters that Apple designed a liquid cooling system for it, resulting in a cool tower that runs Photoshop nearly two times faster than a Pentium 4-based system. In fact, for most creative endeavors, the Power Mac G5 simply has no competition in its class. Full Story

How much power? Isn’t it getting a bit too much out of hand? Every few days these freaks come up with an even more powerful system which consumes lakhs of watts of power (exaggeration?). Instead of making such powerful systems, they should make one, just one, which gives efficiency…..Anyway, that’s just my opinion. I guess the gamers will enjoy these kinds of innovations…

what the devil are you talking about?
its not only gamers who require more power. designers & programmers also require all power they can get, because tools like Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Zend Studio etc. eat up all the resources. PCs nowadays don’t take that much electric power btw.

my 2Ghz PC with 15″ monitor takes about 300watts of power.

I don’t think I expressed myself properly. I would certainly like to get my hands on this system, especially since its an apple system. Its just that, for the average office, even a 500 Mhz system is good enough. But one doesn’t get those nowadays and people are forced to buy systems which consume more than 250 watts of power. And if the office uses 15-20 PCs, then its a total waste of power. I know there are refurbished PCs, but the manufacturers can certainly come up with some better stuff.
