Fight spam, use temporary email!

If I put another word of description about spam mail, I would be spamming here. So, what does one to do tackle spam? You can’t just keep your email ID in hiding. What’s the point in having an ID if no one writes to you. So, to have your cake and eat it to, use a new phenomenon (or am I too late?), Temporary email service.

Here’s a typical scenario: You need to download an application. But that site needs you to give a valid email address. But if you give out your valid email ID, you will more often than not, receive spam. And then there is no way of stopping them from polluting your mailbox.

Now if you search in google, you will get lots of sites which offer temporary email service. But the one that I zeroed onto is mytrashmail.com because, to use this site, you don’t need any signup, password or login. Its plain and simple temporary mail.

What mytrashmail.com does is, it gives you a temporary email account, lasting about one week. All you have to do is provide a username and give out your email ID as myname@mytrashmail.com. Other features include sending fake or anonymous emails.

You could also use a temporary mail forwarding service as offered by mailexpire.com which makes a temporary ID which forwards email to your mailbox. This is also a good service as you can set the time period for the mailbox from 12 hours to 3 months and you can also extend the time period. If you find that a lot of spam is getting forwarded, you can kill the account.

If any folks have a better alternative, please share.

I use Mailinator. It also gives you an instant email id without hassles. Just type in the name of the mailbox you want to check & you get access to that mailbox, like to check someone[at]mailinator[dot]com, just enter someone & you have access to any messages received on that email address. Just keep refreshing the inbox!!

Exactly what mytrashmail.com does. Though maybe mailinator has a slicker interface…
