Google Earth :: Simply Amazing!!
A picture is worth a thousand words, and with Google Earth, that’s more than just true. I knew that satellite images were awesome, I also knew that they were really hard to obtain, but I also knew that Google loves to surprise us with awesome free products. And so the story went. Google bought a satellite imagery company called “Keyhole” and changed it into Google Earth. Now, Keyhole had a very good product but it was aimed at enterprise users only, so little did we know about it.
However, once Google bought it, the story changed. Google broke Keyhole into three products - Google Earth, Google Earth Plus, and Pro. Google Earth is absolutely free to use. The Google Earth Interface is as easy to use as it gets. Just type in where you want to go and Google flies you there for free. In a few minutes of using this tool, I was absolutely addicted, so you can call it my “Around the world in 60 minutes” trip.
Here are a few pictures I took of Google’s Earth to tell the tale.
1. The Google Earth interface (Recognize something ? ) :-
2. Does this big circle from New Delhi seem familiar ?
3. You can also use google earth for 3D views. But this is available in very few cities. Shown below is Manhattan (and a little of Brooklyn) in 3D.
4. There’s accuracy for you - The Indianapolis motor speedway from Indianapolis, U.S.A.
I actually managed to locate my rooftop, let’s see if you can find yours. The best way would be for you to download this right now and see for yourself. Note that Google Earth feeds straight off the google servers, so unless you have a minimum 128kbps internet connection, it’s pretty much useless.
