Meebo : Chat on the Move !
Meebo is a recently launched online Instant Messenger client for the AIM, Yahoo, MSN and ICQ networks based on AJAX. For now, it is a simple, yet efficient system, altough has a few bugs. The software was under private alpha testing for a while before going public but it’s still in alpha stage.
Features :-
- It’s skinning is somewhat similar to Yahoo Messenger.
- It loads up in 3-4 seconds on a 128 kbps connections.
- It supports four major networks ( MSN, Yahoo, AIM & ICQ ), and there are already rumors of including Google Talk, which is based on the open Jabber protocol.
- It’s clean, ad-free (so far), and speedy, with very little latency.
- Meebo has a verisign certificate, so you can trust it with your id’s.
Bugs and Drawbacks :-
In my first day of using this software, I came across a few bugs and shortcomings.
- People we’re appearing and disappearing from my Online Buddies list quite quickly. Now, that normally does not happen, but I’m still not sure if it was meebo’s fault or something else. At one point, my entire buddy list (online and offline) became empty.
- The “other person is typing” message kept showing for about 4-5 minutes, and on asking, it turned out that the other person was not talking at all.
- I didn’t observe any sound/beep notification when a message arrived. This is a key component of any messenger and must be inducted soon.
