Grandpa to pay for Grandson!!

Yeah, a grandfather is being sued over a crime which his grandson did, as Yahoo! reports!!

The The Motion Picture Association of America is suing a 67 year old man called Fred Lawrence of Racine, USA for $600,000 in damages as his grandson downloaded four movies through the P2P file sharing service called iMesh. This lawsuit is the result of the refusal by Lawrence when MPAA asked him to cough up $4000 to settle the matter, in March this year!! Lawrence however maintains that his grandson, who was 12 when he downloaded the movies, wasn’t aware of the legality of the downloads & deleted the files immediately & that the family owned DVDs of three of the four titles that his grandson downloaded. He said that he doesn’t have that kinda money($4000) as he was never wealthy nor will he be ever!!

Kori Bernards, the VP for corporate communications at MPAA however states that movie industry wants people to understand the outcomes of being a part of Internet piracy.

Now I find all this quite amusing!! First you have an old geezer stating that his grandson who knows how to use a P2P client like iMesh to download movies doesn’t know whether this is legal or illegal. And then secondly, what’s even more amusing is that first the MPAA asks him to cough up $4000 & when he refuses to comply to the extortion, they are now using the law to make him pay $600,000. I guess that this amount will consist of the fees of the lawyers of MPAA who’ll fight for them(should there be any need) & the remainder will be enough to cover up those $4000 they asked for!! This comes from an organisation that claims that it looses millions to piracy!! Why sue the one who dowloaded, why not sue the P2P network where the files were available? Why not track the ones who made the files available on the network & take action against them? Well, it ain’t easy getting them, so take whatever is easy to get, that old man & his grandson in this case!! Be it USA or any other country, its always the same case!! :shh:
