Akismet Anti-Spam for Wordpress
After using Akismet on my Wordpress.com blog for a while (and getting good results), I decided to put it through a more stringent test at the Cyberia Weblog which gets exponentially more spam, and so far, it has performed admirably.
It is a product of Automattic, run by Matt Mullenweg, and Akismet is it’s first plugin. It’s actually a community based spam filter whose API can be extended to several software, one of whom is Wordpress. The benefit with Akismet is obvious - since it’s community based, it learns much faster and much better than anti-spam software trained completely by one person. Some spam still manages to escape here and there (that’s obvious too), although it hasn’t happened with me yet. Akismet has caught over 100 spam comments successfully this month, and nothing genuine has been caught yet. Amazing !
And best of all, it’s free for bloggers using Wordpress.

ah well, SK2 is certainly holding fort here & over at my blog which gets spam by the hundreds & thousands!! haven’t had any problems with it & even if some spam comment escapes(very rare, just 4 so far amongst many thousands caught & deleted), they end up in moderation queue, thus never visible on the blog!!
so I’m not changing over to Akismet, the rule of “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” will apply nicely here!!
Here’s a hybrid between the two:
