XBox 360 Hacked, MOD Chip Expected Soon!

Microsoft beware, the Xbox 360 has been cracked. Hackers are now able to dump an image of Xbox 360 games onto Hard disks. The only problem is that when the images are burnt to a disc, they’re un-readable. All that means is that there’s only one thing between the hackers and Xbox 360 piracy on a large scale - MOD Chips. In simple language, a MOD chip is an illegal attachment that enables a console to play pirated discs.

Currently, the Xbox 360 DVD’s features the best security known to optical discs, but as we all know - where there’s a will (and a good business opportunity), there’s a way ! Workshops throughout China are working towards creating the first functional Xbox 360 MOD Chip, but have met with failiure so far. Sources say that it’s only a matter of time.

Unlike yesteryears, manufacturers can now use their online gaming services to check if a console is using a MOD Chip for that, and hence there is effort going into creating a MOD chip that can be deactivated. One reason that hackers are likely to crack the protection quite soon is that Microsoft opted to use current Dual - Layer DVD’s instead of the next generation HD-DVD’s which they are backing, although MIcrosoft may provide a HD-DVD extension pack in the future. The use of HD-DVD would have made the job far more difficult for the hackers, but Microsoft wanted to beat the Sony PlayStation 3 to the market and hence had to compromise.

With the MOD Chip Xbox expected in markets within a month or so, a lot of people might just start saving up for the game console, and go for cheap, pirated game. As for me, I’m still waiting for Sony to declare the price of the PlayStation 3.
