No Google PC!!

Yep, that’s right & straight from the horse’s mouth. A rumour flew sometime back(reported in Mumbai edition of Hindustan Times) that Google will be unveiling its line of low cost PCs, actually thin clients connected to Google’s servers for their storage etc. :think:

But Google has quashed the rumour that it plans to fight tooth and nail with the likes of Dell or HP for a few dollars in the already saturated and highly competitive PC market, as reported on The Register. Google’s PR staff told that the rumour, which was incidently born as a speculation on 2006 predictions story on LA Times, was wholly inaccurate. The rumour claimed that Google was teaming up with retail chains like Wal-Mart to market its low cost PC, but Wal-Mart’s PR team also marked the speculation as a rumor without any truth to it at all.

So I guess that those who were having pleasant thoughts about owning a low cost Google PC would be jolted awake in a nasty way. What I wonder is why these people didn’t invest a second to think as to why Google will enter an already saturated market which doesn’t possibly has a high potential when its having its bank accounts swell with the money it makes by providing services, which is their core business model. Sure Google will be looking to diversify its revenue earners from the (current)sole ads model, but surely they can’t be expected to make such a not-so-clever move, can they? Well, with Google, we never know!!
