$11 billion fine!!

A Florida(USA) man was found guilty of sending out about 280 million spam emails with their return addresses pointing to CIS Internet Services, a small Iowa(USA) based ISP. The judgement? The guilty, James McCalla, has been banned from accessing the internet for three years and a nominal fine for every spam email sent, which incidently amounts to US$11.2 billion!! (via TechWorld)

After the judgement, Robert W. Kramer, owner of CIS who sued the spammer McCalla, was reported as saying to press agencies that this judgement has set a new standard as abusers of email risk public ridicule & economic death penalty!! However, Kramer was doubtful of ever receiving the money, which raises the question as to whether any such rulings against spammers is of any use or will they really deter them from that zilch we know as spamming!!
