Google Pack!!
Its true, the rumoured Google Pack is a reality!! Google is distributing a suite of free softwares that intends to make your computing experience easy & memorable. Following are the contents of the suite as yet:
- Google Earth
- Google Desktop
- Picasa
- Google Toolbar(for IE)
- Google Pack Screensaver
- Mozilla FireFox(with Google Toolbar)
- AdAware SE Personal
- Norton Antivirus 2005 Special Edition(6 month trial)
- Adobe Reader 7
Except Norton Antivirus, all these softwares are easily available at their respective websites for free. The Norton Antivirus comes with a free six month subscription to the LiveUpdate after which you’ll have to purchase the subscription. I think that they could’ve done better by providing a free anti-virus software instead of Norton, like AVG Free Edition or Anti Vir Personal Edition or ClamAV.
A thing that I liked about this Google Pack is that you can make a custom suite, thus removing those applications from the installer which you already have or don’t want to use/download, like if you are gonna use FireFox, then its quite possible that you’ll not be using IE and hence the Google Toolbar for it is not worth downloading!!
Another thing that’s present in the suite is Google Updater which will let you know when an update to any application in the Google Pack is available & can download & install the same for you.
However, there are some who cringe for more!! Many were left ranting that they are missing a word processing & a spreadsheet program & even raised questions like why OpenOffice wasn’t bundled with the Google Pack!!
That might come sooner & then we might have another one saying why Google ain’t bundling an image editing software or even an operating system!! :shh:
