Bangalore gets India’s first online movie rental!

SeventyMM is a new online movie rental library like Netflix started on a much smaller scale throughout Bangalore. You can choose your movie online and it will be delivered to your doorstep (no delivery charges). Also, there are no time limits or late fees for the movies. This does sound good at first but may encourage re-lending.

They have two membership plans at present one for Rs. 199 per month, where you can get 4 movies per month or Rs. 549 per months for unlimited movies. There’s a refundable deposit of 2000 bucks to be paid when you first sign up. Currently, they have a gallery of 10,000 movies to choose from. Cool! :bingo:

Well, well, well, this thing can succeed, but only if they lower their rates!! Rs.50 for a movie, that’s quite a bit high considering people are used to subscription with the local video library within walking distance which allows you to have a movie at much almost half of that rate!! So home delivery & pickup, it won’t cut much with people having video libraries etc. nearby. Other than that, there’s no benefit to the people!! ;)

well its cool but the problem is there are so many cd/dvd libraries in the city that people wont go for 70mm unless its economical

Well, Rs. 500 for unlimited movies may be reasonable for some lazy movie buffs! Plus, there’s no late fees, and you can borrow two movies at a time.

exactly what I said Anil. :)

yeah, that does seem like a good deal.

usually, all of video libraries don’t charge a late fee nowadays, more likely from old members. I for one haven’t been asked to pay for a late fee even when I’ve been late by 2 weeks!! ;) and again, almost all libraries do allow members to take 2 movies at a time. mine is good, no limit at all, I can take 2 at a time or 10, its all cool with the owner, given that I’ve been a regular for last 3 years & pay my dues on time!! :) but I’ve also tried some other libraries in last 2 years and they also allow more than 2 movies at a time, given that you have a valid address & phone number(which they verify ofcourse).

    Hey,

I am sure not all can get as lucky as Amit ofcourse…. sure their are quite a few video libraries in the area i stay i but they charge me 50 bucks per dvd and their is also a late fee attached to it. I think seventymm’s unlimited plan is a lot more reasonable as i get to see a lot more movies with with out taking the trouble of picking it up and returing it. I totally agree with abhinav…. movies are now just a click / call away for me

and if you refer a few friends then your membership fee is further reduced … it has worked very well for me and i think they are doing a great job and are here to stay …

yeah, its all about what clicks anjana, something that works for one doesn’t for another & vice versa. still, a good deal’s a good deal!! :)
