Review: Blog Everywhere

The print media here in India seems to be hyping Sabeer Bhatia’s latest tool BlogEverywhere quite a lot, almost as if they’re expecting another Hotmail. To cut a long story short (I hate to be blunt here), this is anything but the kind of revolution that Hotmail was. BlogEverywhere is very much like StumbleUpon but with a few added perks here and there and by the way, it looks really ugly!

The developers may claim it’s blogging but in reality it is more of a commenting system. Whenever you visit a site, BE shows you the “blogs” (comments) people have left about it for you to read, and you can add your own comments too. Now do you understand why it reminds me of SU? The system is highly prone to spam and I don’t think it’ll be long before people start making automated comments for spamming the whole place. Whether the developers are ready with an effective anti-spam system is left to be answered.

The toolbar features a search box (to earn them some extra bucks), a “Read” and a “Write” feature and an RSS ticker that nobody really needs with the latest generation of browsers. My opinion? BE requires a better look, a sleeker toolbar, and more importantly a Firefox version (coming soon), but most importantly, it will need a good anti-spam system.

This makes me wonder, why would I want to comment on everything I see? Why don’t I get my own blog page(so it isn’t even blogging anymore!)? If I’m reading a blog, I’d rather just comment on the comment form, bla..bla….

    Quoted from BlogEveryWhere FAQ:

BlogEverywhere is designed so everyone can post comments on any web page. You don’t need any special knowledge to use it - just type and publish.

This is quite misleading to people who don’t know about it!! Literally, it means that you can post your comment on any webpage, so I just open Google’s or Microsoft’s homepage & will post a comment on it so that its visible to everyone else, wow!!

Now, what people don’t know is that this is similar to CoComment as well(unless I’m mistaken), though not quite since CoComment appears to be better. And as for the Indian media going ga-ga over it as if its something revolutionary, they are all just a bunch of buffoons, hyping it unnecessarily for no apparent reason!!
