Microsoft ‘Kahuna’!!

So there’s finally a review of Microsoft ‘Kahuna’ a.k.a. Windows Live Mail, the much touted successor of Hotmail & MSN Email, on Yahoo! News. I too did a review of Windows Live Mail sometime back and in that I noted how the interface is clunky & a pain to use.

But in this review posted on Yahoo! News, the reviewer Joe Bel Bruno notes that the interface is much more like Microsoft’s Outlook rather than a web product & I do wonder whether he’s actually seen what Microsoft Outlook looks like, because if he’s seen it then I do wonder how he’s comparing the interface of Microsoft ‘Kahuna‘ to Outlook, the two don’t have any similarity in design, except in the structure of the interface!! :think: He further noted that running a spell check was sluggish, which can be attributed to the fact that its done via AJAX but I do wonder what kinda PC & internet connection was Mr.Bruno using, because it isn’t sluggish as I’ve seen & experienced it. And then he draws comparisons with the currently in beta interface of Yahoo! Mail and Gmail, saying how this new interface by Microsoft lacks the tab feature of Yahoo! Mail and Gmail’s unique way of tracking emails conversation style!! Well, one can guess that Mr.Bruno was expecting a hybrid of Yahoo! Mail & Gmail from Microsoft!! And he finally comes to the obtrusive ad placement by Microsoft which takes up almost half of the available screen real estate, not a good thing to do by any standards!!

Not a thorough review of a service’s offerings & its drawbacks, it just barely scratches the surface, something expected from a typical journalist!!
